Are you invited to a baby shower or looking for the ideal gift for a new mom? With so many options available, choosing the perfect present can be a bit overwhelming. But fear not! We've curated a list of thoughtful and practical gifts that any new parent would appreciate. Whether you're shopping for a baby shower or visiting a new mom, these gift ideas are sure to bring joy and relief during those precious early days.
- Registry: Does the new mom have a registry? If so, buying something from the registry would be our #1 recommendation. The mom- or parents-to-be probably spent a lot of time putting together a registry, and for a good reason. They may already have some things or they may be picky in terms of theme, colors, or brands. If mom doesn’t have a registry or everything has already been purchased, read on!
- Diaper Cake or Bouquet: A diaper cake or diaper bouquet is not only a cute decoration but also a practical gift. It's made of rolled-up diapers arranged to resemble a tiered cake or bouquet. You can either buy one or make your own by adding essential baby items like pacifiers, bibs, and baby wipes. Diaper cakes make very useful gifts and the pizzazz factor surpasses your standard gift bag or box in wrapping paper. It’s a unique baby shower gift that will stand out from the rest. - Baby Books: Start building the baby's library with classic children's books or board books featuring colorful illustrations and simple stories. Books are not only entertaining but also promote early literacy skills. You can also include a note in the cover of the book in lieu of purchasing a greeting card! Some fan favorites are the Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where’s Spot, and Go, Dog, Go.
- Baby Toys: Stimulate the baby's senses with age-appropriate toys such as rattles, plush animals, and teething rings. Choose toys that are safe, durable, and easy to clean. If I’m not purchasing off of a registry, I like to put together a baby gift basket of necessities, and I always include a toy. My very favorite brand is Lamaze, and the toys that both of my kids were obsessed with were Muffin the Moose and Freddie the Firefly. They make for a unique baby gift because not everyone knows about them, and most don’t think to add stuff like that to their registries. Everyone I know gets gifted a Lamaze toy by me, and I’ve only gotten stellar feedback.
- Baby Clothing: You can never go wrong with adorable baby clothes. Opt for soft, comfortable fabrics and choose sizes that the baby can grow into. Consider seasonal clothing or multipacks of onesies and sleepers for everyday wear. Also, we recommend purchasing size 3M or up, as most guests will probably get smaller sizes, so the baby will have a ton of small clothes that he or she will grow out of quickly.
- Swaddle Blankets: Swaddling helps babies feel secure and comfortable, making swaddle blankets a must-have for new parents. Look for breathable, stretchy fabrics that allow for easy wrapping and come in cute patterns or colors. Ollie is our personal favorite because it’s easy to wipe burp-up from them and almost impossible for baby to escape.
- Baby Bath Essentials: Bath time can be a fun bonding experience for parents and babies. Gift a set of gentle baby shampoo, body wash, and lotion, along with a soft hooded towel and washcloths.
- Nursing Essentials: If the new mom plans to breastfeed, consider practical gifts like nursing bras, nursing pads, and a comfortable nursing pillow. You can also include a stylish nursing cover for discreet feeding in public.
- Baby Gear: Help make life easier for the new parents with essential baby gear like a baby carrier, stroller, or diaper bag. Look for lightweight and versatile options that cater to their lifestyle.
- Keepsake Gifts: Commemorate the baby's arrival with personalized keepsake gifts such as a custom-made birth announcement frame, handprint or footprint kit, or engraved jewelry for the mom.
- Gift Cards: If you're unsure about what to get, you can never go wrong with a gift card to a baby store or online retailer. This allows the parents to choose exactly what they need for their little one.
Remember, it's the thought that counts, so don't stress too much about finding the perfect new mom gift or new parent gift. Whether it's something practical or sentimental, your gesture of love and support will be greatly appreciated by the new parents.
